Modern vehicle since the mid 90's have electronic anti theft systems installed by the manufacturer, this includes an electronic key system where the vehicle will only start with the correct key programmed to the individual vehicle. As a auto locksmith, you will often be called out to make replacement keys after the owner has lost their original key.
Keys can be programmed in several ways, often through the diagnostic or OBD port where you simply hook up your key programming device (tester) and follow the onscreen programming instructions and the key is programmed and ready to start the vehicle.
Some vehicle require a little more to enable them to start, sometimes because a pin code has to be extracted or calculated, this is usually done by reading Eprom's from the imobiliser system. These Eprom's are usually soldered to the circuit board and need to be de-soldered and then read in a chip reading device.
The "Programming Course" will show you how to locate and remove the correct electronic module and remove the correct chip by de-soldering it, then reading the chip and decoding the chip in order to find the pin code or read the LOGIC code from the chip. We teach you how to solder, de-solder and tips and tricks to repair broken circuit tracks, so that as well as being able to understand and program Eprom chips, you will also be competent with soldering equipment.
This course can be attended by experienced auto locksmiths or can be added to the 5 day auto locksmith course.
We also run one day soldering and de-soldering courses, call us for details.
